Lia Bartella, MD, FRCR
It is with great pleasure that we welcome Lia Bartella, MD, FRCR as director of our breast imaging center.

Dr. Bartella is joining us from Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York where she worked as a Breast Imaging Specialist. She graduated from the University of Edinburgh. She specialized in diagnostic radiology and completed a fellowship in Breast Imaging at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital in London. After her fellowship, she served as an attending radiologist at the National Breast Cancer Screening Program in London. In 2002 she was recruited as a Breast Imaging specialist by Memorial Sloan- Kettering Cancer Center in New York, where she was appointed Assistant Professor. During this time, she had full time clinical duties which included digital mammography, breast sonography, breast MRI, stereotactic breast biopsies, ultrasound and MRI guided biopsies, and needle localizations.

In addition to teaching residents, fellows and visiting attendings from all over the globe, she was actively involved in breast cancer research with an interest in breast MRI and breast Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy and has numerous publications in medical journals and books on these subjects. As Principal Investigator, she received a grant from the National Institute of Health (NIH). She has been lecturing on breast MRI and MRS in North America, Asia and Europe. She is a reviewer for several journals including the American Journal of Roentgenology (AJR), Radiographics and European Radiology (EUR). She has been an active invited Member of the American College of Radiology MRI Lexicon Committee since 2005.

Arie L. Liebeskind, M.D. Medical Director
Arie L. Liebeskind, M.D. earned his medical degree in 1965 from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Board certified in radiology since 1970 he holds additional certifications in Neuroradiology, Radiotherapy and Nuclear Medicine.  Dr. Liebeskind is a Senior Member of the American Society of Neuroradiology. Dr. Liebeskind completed his internship at St. Luke's Hospital and radiology residency and fellowship in Neuroradiology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

The author of over 30 peer reviewed publications, Dr. Liebeskind, was for many years the Director of Radiology at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary and St. Clare’s Hospital.  Dr. Liebeskind has been an attending radiologist and associate professor in radiology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Cornell University College of Medicine, North Shore University Hospital, St. Francis Hospital and Doctors Hospital/Beth Israel Medical Center.
